Wealthy individuals tend to fall into two distinct groups. Firstly, there are those who try to show off their wealth, possibly by wearing expensive brand-name outfits, or perhaps driving luxury cars, and dining at high-end restaurants. Moreover, they will be unlikely to visit anywhere they feel is below their status, as they will be afraid that people will regard them with disdain. Secondly, there are those wealthy people who conduct themselves below their actual level of prosperity, by dressing normally, without feeling compelled to use brand names, driving good cars, but not necessarily luxury ones, and being able to dine anywhere, without worrying they will be frowned upon by others.
I believe most people admire the latter group, rather more than the former, especially if they are also identified as being compassionate, and charitable. This is in contrast with the first group, who even when they give to charity, people tend to say that they are doing it just to show off their wealth, or to gain recognition.
